We’ve successfully installed the boom of the new Stacker Reclaimer we’re building at our paper mill in Tumut.

Measuring an impressive fifty-four metres in length and weighing 85 tonnes, the team utilised self-propelled mobile transport (SPMT) to move the boom to the pad ready for lifting. Two cranes were then used in the process – a hydraulic slew crane to load the boom into a sling and a 272T Crawler crane to lift and set the boom into position. It was a seamless lift and place.

The first of its kind in Australia, the Stacker Reclaimer will increase wood chip storage at Tumut from six days to 22 days once it’s completed later this year, ensuring a more sustainable softwood forestry industry.

It is one of several major investment projects currently underway at Visy to enable us to continue to re-manufacture sustainable packaging options locally in Australia.

Well done to the teams involved for meeting this latest milestone.
