A realignment of a section of road in the Shire of Junee in NSW has made the intersection of Byrnes Road and Harefield Road much safer. The NSW Minister for Roads, Freight and Maritime, Duncan Gay is hailing the partnership between Junee Shire Council, the NSW government, Visy and Qube Logistics as a quality example of a public-private partnership.
The road has been shifted 150 metres to the east and will allow trucks to cross the rail line in both directions and mean fewer heavy vehicles on Harefield Road and the Oympic Highway.
Both council and the state government contributed $500,000 each to the project with Visy kicking in $200,000 and Qube Logistics providing $100,000.
The completion of the Byrnes Rd deviation project will enhance the local community by confining truck routing to and from the Harefield Intermodal terminal to the main arterial roads of the region thus enabling improved community safety outcomes.
