$50,000 Grant by City of Gold Coast and The Pratt Foundation
Perishable food rescue organisation OzHarvest has been awarded a $50,000 VISA Sustainability Grant by City of Gold Coast and The Pratt Foundation.
The grant encourages local businesses to divert edible food waste away from landfill and back to disadvantaged or vulnerable people on the Gold Coast. An estimated 39,000 tonnes of food waste was lost to landfill in 2013-14.
The Pratt Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Pratt family, provided the funding. Visy’s Resource Recovery General Manager, Gary Whitehead, noted that the company was keen to achieve the City’s goal of reducing organic waste going to landfill. Waste avoidance is a key outcome of the draft Solid Waste Strategy 2015-2014 ensuring the City has the capacity to manage the Gold Coast’s waste into the future.
