In a factory setting there are typically a number of printing, coding and labelling devices in use at a given time. In many cases an individual production line will feature a device to mark a primary package. Once packed into secondary level packaging a carton of product may require an inkjet printed product contents description and a labelling system may apply a barcode label.
These devices traditionally comprise of an operator interface that is specific to the device and localised. An operator may need to attend u to three or more operator panels just to update a product change request or date code change. This presents opportunity for error to occur.
Package code management eliminates the risk of human error by connecting all the devices over network to a master control system. An operator can make a single request which is transmitted to multiple print devices.
The data that is sent to the printers can come from a network connected database which can even be the main enterprise database eliminating the need to maintain multiple data locations.
