Offshore Procurement to Australian Manufacturing Line

In 2015, Visy worked with an international beverage brand based in Asia, to reset their complex logistics strategy for transporting bulk product consignments to regional New South Wales (NSW), Australia

Problem:

The client required significant volumes of bulk product shipped from Asia to Australia on a weekly basis, then transported safely and reliably to a remote location for its production requirements.

Solution:

Visy devised a comprehensive logistics strategy to deliver greater end-to-end efficiency for transporting 160 tonnes of bulk product per week from Asia to regional NSW, Australia.

The international route was mapped in great detail and a process was defined to achieve considerable time and cost savings. As Australia’s largest container shipper, moving circa 130,000 TEU of freight per year on vessels, Visy used its buying power to negotiate favourable terms with shipping lines.

Visy Plastics worked closely with the client and suppliers in Asia to ship the resin in containers to Sydney Port on DDP terms, where the goods were customs cleared. The containers were delivered by train to Harefield, NSW, where they were transferred to specialised tipping skel trucks for the final leg of the journey. Once the product was delivered to the client, the empty containers were delivered back to Sydney via the same transport modes. Throughout the project, Visy provided value added supply chain services to the client.
