Visy is proud of its status as a world leader in sustainability practices for food plastics and beverage plastics
Sustainability is a core Visy value, which extends throughout the Visy supply chain through our people, processes, manufacturing plants, policies and external partnerships.
Our commitment to sustainable practices is evidenced in our many ‘lightweight’ bottle projects and the inclusion of Visy’s food-grade recycled PET and recycled HDPE back into our bottles.
In 2014, Visy produced Australia’s first 100% recycled PET lightweight water bottle for Coles. At the time, the impact of this change was that 130 million fewer bottles would be made of new plastic per year.
At an Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO) meeting in September 2018, Visy, alongside other packaging, retail, logistics, manufacturing, recycling and waste management companies, committed to the following national packaging waste targets:
100% of all Australia’s packaging will be reusable, recyclable or compostable by 2025 or earlier
70% of Australia’s plastic packaging will be recycled or composted by 2025
30% average recycled content will be included across all packaging by 2025
Problematic and unnecessary single-use plastic packaging will be phased out through design, innovation or introduction of alternatives
Alongside these packaging waste targets, Visy is focussed on helping its customers with their sustainability goals, and on continually improving and innovating its internal operations.
