Visy welcome the $70m Gocup Rd upgrade announcement and the NSW Government’s ongoing support for jobs and investment, and the continuous improvement of road infrastructure into the future.
Local National MP and Minister for Primary Industries, Katrina Hodgkinson and Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier for Rural and Regional Affairs, Wagga Wagga MP Daryl Maquire announced $70m over the next five years to complete the full upgrade of Gocup Road. Gocup Road is the main link from Tumut and surrounding towns to the Hume Highway.
Ms Hodgkinson said that the full upgrade would be particularly beneficial helping to service Visy’s Tumut Kraft Mill with modern freight trucks to help reduce the number of truck movements on local roads.
Gus Carfi, COO of Visy’s International Operations, said, “This is a very pleasing and timely announcement. Visy has invested over $1 billion in its Tumut pulp and paper mill in the region and created thousands of jobs. Efficient transport is a crucial aspect of maintaining our operations here. We welcome the Gocup Road upgrade announcement and the NSW Government’s ongoing support for jobs and investment, and the continuous improvement of road infrastructure into the future. Tumut Council has also played a strong leadership role in pushing for road upgrades like this key one for our region.”
