NSW CLEAN ENERGY PROJECT
Background
Visy's investment in clean energy is continuing with the NSW Clean Energy Project. We're looking at what it takes to extend our use of residual waste beyond our own manufacturing operations to use kerbside waste and commercial waste which cannot be recycled further.
This highlights the strength of our innovative nature as we strive to create a world where rubbish is a thing of the past. It is a logical extension of Visy's ongoing commitment to create a valuable resource from what is normally considered waste. Our vision is to be the leader in resource recovery.
Our aim is to turn waste generated in the Sydney metropolitan area into solid recovered fuel after recovering recyclables and stabilising the organic material. Energy recovered from the waste derived fuel would generate electricity to help power NSW.
The investment required to turn our NSW Clean Energy Project into reality highlights our serious commitment to clean energy. Turning the project into reality however still requires a lot of work.
Development Approvals
Visy's NSW Clean Energy Project would require approval from the Minister for Planning and Infrastructure. This would involve a formal approvals process that includes a comprehensive assessment of all environmental and socio-economic aspects of the project. The approvals process would also require extensive public consultation and public exhibition of the comprehensive assessment report.
Preparatory Activities
Visy has received funding support from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) through an Emerging Renewables Program Measure grant. This will contribute to some of the necessary preparatory activities to support the technical design and approvals process for our NSW Clean Energy Project.
