Our Beverage Can business is a major supplier of aluminium cans and ends to the Australian and New Zealand marketplaces. We produce a significant amount of beverage cans every year - more than 1.5 billion aluminium cans per annum. They are used for everything from carbonated soft drinks and ready-to-drink products, to beer. If you've taken a sip from a can recently, chances are it was made by Visy.
Although aluminium cans already have strong support from consumers, Visy work tirelessly to innovate and expand in this field - which has seen the introduction of decorative innovations such as embossing on cans, and a range of textured, gloss or matte finishes. High-definition print processes that provide photo-quality images are also increasing in-store visibility and impact. In addition, Visy and its global technology partners are continually improving the coating and lacquers we use on our cans to enhance the flavour experience for consumers. As a result of these innovations, the cans we drink from today are actually quite different to those we drank from twenty years ago.
BEVERAGE CAN TECHNOLOGY
Visy has a licensing and technology agreement with Rexam, a global leader producing billions of cans a year, predominantly in Europe, the US and South America. Our alliance with Rexam includes licensing for use of manufacturing equipment and processes, as well as access to a range of services and expertise at the forefront of global developments.
The introduction of high-resolution printing has been a landmark of innovation in our Beverage Can business. The computer to plate (CTP) technology has made significant improvements in print quality, further enhancing the presence of branded products on the shelf.
To ensure the end product is of the highest quality, Visy has also invested in online inspection systems including:
- Label verifiers
- Internal inspection cameras
- Compound inspection cameras
- Conversion press cameras programmed with label designs and images of defect-free wall and bases
