Sustainability is also at the core of what we do and is applied to all our projects; we are proud to say the Visy Tumut paper mill is the lowest user of water of any similar mill in Australia, with zero effluent leaving the site.

Visy and BRR have been at the forefront of the recycling industry for many years - and today, Visy processes recyclables from more than millions of households annually, and recovers millions of tonnes of paper and cardboard, glass, plastics and metals.
BRR has been instrumental in this environmental success. Thanks to the experience developing and upgrading Visy’s facilities, BRR can provide Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management (EPCM) services for Materials Recovery Facilities (MRF) and r-PET facilities. BRR has integrated some of the most innovative sorting technologies in all facilities. BRR has also executed the first food grade and FDA approved recycling facility in Australia producing r-PET and r-HDPE. By utilising best available technologies, BRR was able to minimise cost, improve safety and reduce environmental footprint.

WASTE TO ENERGY
Since 2001, Visy has invested $150m in clean energy from Waste. Our waste to energy plants contribute to the electricity and thermal energy requirements of our paper mills. They also divert a large amount of waste from landfill helping to reduce the amount of greenhouse gases produced by landfills. Visy's investment in clean energy is continuing with the NSW Clean Energy Project aiming to turn almost one fifth of the waste generated in the Sydney metropolitan area into solid recovered fuel after recovering recyclables and stabilising the organic material. Energy recovered from the waste derived fuel would generate electricity to help power NSW.
BRR is an integral part of Visy’s commitment to waste to energy, having managed the currently operating plants and studying future projects. BRR has experience along the entire WTE process, providing technology options to cater to our customers’ specific needs. We have expertise in fluidised bed (circulating and bubbling) boilers, grate boilers, plasma gasification and anaerobic digestion. BRR is continually increasing its engineering capabilities and working with technology partners to include a wide range of methods and technologies available to our customers.
